Didier de Wulf,\u00a0Director at Hulpverleningszone Centrum in Gent was present in the IFAFRI Industry Day 2019, organized Bruxelles on Monday 15th October 2019. T<\/span>he International Forum to Advance First Responder Innovation (IFAFRI) is an organization of international government leaders from 13 countries and the European Commission, focused on enhancing and expanding the development of new technology for first responders worldwide.\u00a0<\/span>IFAFRI’s objectives and activities are:<\/span><\/p>

1. Working with the global first responder community to define a list of common, high priority capability gaps;
2. Providing a platform for international collaboration on innovative research and development (R&D) initiatives and solutions;
3. Characterizing global first responder markets to inform and guide industry and academia to develop and produce innovative technology solutions at affordable prices; and
4. Providing information about relevant and available first responder technologies to the first responder community.<\/p>

In this event, IFAFRI has introduced 10 capability gaps, and 2 of them are very familiar to our project as we are working on them since the requirements phase<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/section>\n\t\t\t\t

\u201cThe Ability to Know the Location of Responders and Their\nProximity to Threats and Hazards in Real Time\u201d<\/h2>\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t
\n\t\t\t\t
\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t
\n\t\t\t\t\t

IFAFRI has reaced consensus on four first responder capability gaps. These gaps represent the highest priority gaps common amongst the first responders represented by the IFAFRI member nations. These gaps are:<\/span><\/p>

\u2022 The ability to know the location of responders and their proximity to risks and hazards in real time;33
\u2022 The ability to detect, monitor and analyze passive and active threats and hazards at incident scenes in real time;
\u2022 The ability to rapidly identify hazardous agents and contaminants; and
\u2022 The ability to incorporate information from multiple and nontraditional sources (for example, crowdsourcing and social media) into incident command operations.<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t

The gaps with the highest commonality amongst member nations were presented to all IFAFRI members for consensus.
IFAFRI has reached consensus on six first responder capability gaps:
\u2022 The ability to know the location of responders and their proximity to risks and hazards in real time;
\u2022 The ability to detect, monitor, and analyze passive and active threats and hazards at incident scenes in real time;
\u2022 The ability to rapidly identify hazardous agents and contaminants; and
\u2022 The ability to incorporate information from multiple and nontraditional sources into incident command operations.
\u2022 The ability to maintain interoperable communications with responders in any environmental conditions.
\u2022 The ability to obtain critical information remotely about the extent, perimeter, or interior of the incident.<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t
